Travel And Tourism is essential for Haiti to pay attention to because this sector is globally innovative and highly broad and the latest ITB Berlin global travel trade conference was the latest example why visitor economy continued their growth and success stories. Haiti also could have benefited from growing new markets while working on developing new destinations in Haiti that are more secure and highly and commercially sellable to international visitors. ITB Berlin and FITUR 2026 Editions were the two Europe's largest tourism fairs, and sadly Haiti missed out on them due to the political crisis, and more so because Haiti Tourism is still lacking its independency to protect it from geolopolitical tensions and unstable government.

This year marked the 60th anniversary of ITB Berlin , the Europe's largest tourism fair as they brought together nearly 6,000 exhibitors from more than 160 countries. This 2026 edition focused on sustainable tourism, digital solutions, travel technology, and experience-driven travel.

Haiti Tourism Authority is advocating to expand tourism and travel in Haiti and considering the possibility to have partipicated with Haiti Tourism Ministry under the umbrella "Destination Haiti", or the under the umbrella "Experience Haiti" with Haiti Minister of Tourism.

Our goals at Haiti Tourism Authority are to shape a global tourism agenda for Haiti with Independent Destination Management Organizations (DMO) to uncover travel opportunities for diaspora and global travelers in Haiti.

We would have loved to talk, present, demonstrate, answer questions, build relationships, and create new connections in ITB Berlin and discuss growth orpportunties with travel and tourism stakeholders from around the world that seek new travel destinations to offer their clients as new local destinations are activated and available for individual, family, and business travelers..

ITB Berlin operates as an ecosystem to create added value and benefits for national economies these countries by sellling the tourism products and augment their visibility with a stronger budget dedicated to tourism and travel to grow and improve local services, accelerate the adoption of new tourism technologies to simplify bookings, visit new attractions , and finaly improve the beautification of new tourism facilities .

It is of course a complex economic system that moves money, labour, infrastructure, and policy across borders as everyone has some role to play to make it work. Yet, countries are capitalizing on its growth to grow their service economy to have a more effective distribution network.

Germany is recognized as home to some of the most widely traveled consumers in the world and the world’s third  largest economy. In making participation in ITB Berlin would have been a strategic move for Haiti to advance national tourism and travel agenda through diversity, culture, history,  and local and rural tourism development tailored personal and curated experiences for international visitors.

Despite Haiti is far from global tourism goals, we need to start planting the seeds for future of tourism and travel to strengthen brand visibility and engagement across the Strongly economically developed countries in Asia, Europe, and America and Africa.

With the participation of Haiti through different trade shows for  travel and tourism show, Haiti delegation will engage in meetings with the media, industry partners and travel and tourism stakeholders including exploring opportunities to expand destinations horizons and help develop new destinations in Haiti through collaborative initiatives that showcase the island's rich cultural and historical heritage and an emerging tourism market more tiny towns and cities offering curated experiences for visitors.

The travel and tourism industry contributes to: Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Foreign Exchange Earnings, Tax revenues, Massive Employment IOpportuntives Created.

As more people see the tourism and travel industry as a strategic sector , they invest in building modern infrastructure and structures . More developed and developing economies rely on the sector to build a broad market economy to reach more employed people. Tourism is among the top sectors in employment and one of the leading foreign exchange earners as they help increase economic activity across all sectors . It strengthens national income to help more people find jobs to do in their local communities and supports public services through taxation as more people are sitting on social services from public sector. They help activate private sector faster and enable more employers to provide services linked to a growing economy : food, telecommunications, health, and commerce .

Tourism is more than exporting as the jobs are available and created without government subsidies . They jobs are created locally without costs on trade agreements - visitors come to consume services locally and if they enjoy it , they bring their friends and family and share it to all on their networks so they can come as well .  It helps grow the economy from a  bottom-up approach and increase the service-based economy to attract more producers and suppliers.

—Tourism As a Source of Employment

The travel and tourism industry creates three categories of jobs namely:Direct jobs (for instance, hotel staff, tour guides, travel consultants), Indirect jobs (for instance, Farmers supplying food to hotels, artisans, transport workers), Induced jobs (for example, businesses supported by tourism workers’ spending).

It absorbs both skilled and unskilled labor, making it a critical sector for youth employment, technical and professional job placement. Because Haiti’s population is till young at 45 percent, this can become a catalyst for employment. Tourism can provide employment for youth for offering vocational training, technical assistance on eco-tourism, and hospitality, culinary skills and event management services to help learn on.

— Tourism as Infrastructure Development for Cities and Destinations.

It will be as a great opportunity and interest for us to know that roads, airports, internet access, security systems, and even urban development often expand just because of tourism demand.

Tourism can redefine cities and rural destinations. In Haiti , tourism development can be the catalyst for growth  with urban development in major metropolitan regions. Haiti needs interconnected road networks, trams , and trains to connect Northern regions to Southern Haiti  and build new high roads t major destinations and modern bridges to make it easier to transport and do commerce with neighborhood cities and Caribbean countries. The One Caribbean Tunnel Project can be a major upgrade on infrastructure to make it easier to people in the region to commute and transport goods.
